Art & Design
We believe that every child has the right to receive a high-quality art and design education. We ensure that our curriculum is broad, balanced and interesting so that the children are equipped with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
Our Art and Design Curriculum follows the main key art skills: drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printing and textiles. The children will also learn about artists, craft makers, architects and designers in history.
To become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.
To evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design.
About great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
How art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

In order to do this each child has their own sketch book to review and revisit ideas and record their work. The children take great care in these books and they are passed on to the next class. In Years 1 and 2, the children have a portfolio of artwork which the children are very proud of. These books demonstrate the level of each child’s achievement and the progress they have made. When they are full they take them home to keep and share with their family.
The quality of the children’s art work can also be seen in displays throughout the school. In the summer term we hold an annual arts week and invite parents to support our arts day. The children work in groups of all different ages and produce stunning work.
