SENIOR LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE
Rachael Brotherton
Eric Price
Nina Jackson
Ben Hamer

This Team comprises the Acting Head Teacher (Rachael Brotherton), Chairs of committees (Eric Price for Curriculum, Nina Jackson for Pupil Welfare, and Ben Hamer, Finance), as well as Chair of the governing body (again, Ben Hamer). The team covers cross-cutting committee issues, important matters of protocol, the school's ethos etc. It meets once termly, prior to committee meetings.
Curriculum Committee
Eric Price
Caroline Bourne

The Curriculum Committee is an overarching committee for the development of many policies and procedures in the school, and is fundamental to the school's commitment to providing the best possible teaching and learning.

The committee confirms that the National Curriculum is implemented in a broad and balanced framework, with reference to the Government's guideline of 'Every Child Matters'.

Committee members also monitor quality of teaching and learning through class observations and report back to the Full Governing Body. Monitoring the progress of Special Educational Needs (SEN) pupils is an important aspect of our duties. Additionally we implement a continuous programme of assessment, reporting and monitoring of the School Improvement Plan.

As Sutton Veny is a Church of England school, we review and revise policies for Collective Worship and R.E. classes.

Sitting on the Curriculum Committee is ultimately a way to becoming involved in and challenged by the very essence of Sutton Veny School.

STAFFING COMMITTEE
Andrew Armstrong
Rachael Brotherton
Graham Shingleton

The staffing committee is responsible for all matters concerning the staff at the school, both teaching and non-teaching. Together with the headteacher, it agrees staffing levels, makes appointments and is responsible for redundancies. It would also be responsible for dismissals, were these necessary.

The committee decides the levels of pay staff will receive and oversees performance management, having sole responsibility for the performance management of the headteacher. It ensures on-going teacher development and training, policy regarding supply staff and class room cover and the induction process for teachers.

Staffing committee members fill a central and rewarding role in the work of the governing body.

PUPIL WELFARE COMMITTEE
Nina Jackson
Maggie Landry

Pupil Welfare owns and updates the policies that relate to cultural diversity, sex education, behaviour and the safeguarding of our school community.

In addition to ensuring that relevant policies are in place and legally compliant, the committee seeks to draw on best practice recommendations. The committee has oversight of school visits to assist the school management in ensuring that policies are being effectively implemented.

Training and development needs for the relevant areas are identified and communicated to the Senior Leadership Team and other committees as appropriate.
